Union City Streetscape Improvements: Revitalizing a Neighborhood Corridor

Along one of Union City’s most active commercial corridors, a phased initiative is transforming the stretch from 30th Street to 37th Street. The project responds to the daily rhythm of storefront activity, pedestrian movement, and neighborhood life by prioritizing safety, accessibility, and visual cohesion.

This is more than a surface-level upgrade. The improvements are designed to strengthen the corridor as a walkable, welcoming spine that supports both residents and local businesses.

Rebuilding the Streetscape from the Ground Up

The project reimagines the pedestrian experience through full sidewalk and curb reconstruction, introducing scored concrete and paver accents that add texture and character while maintaining durability under heavy use.

Beneath the surface, full-depth pavement repairs address long-term roadway performance, ensuring the corridor remains reliable and functional for years to come.

Designing for Access, Safety, and Everyday Use

Accessibility and safety are central to the design. ADA-compliant curb ramps improve crossings at key intersections, while the replacement of aging cellar doors eliminates trip hazards. Upgraded drainage inlets with bicycle-safe grates enhance protection for cyclists moving through the corridor.

Our team is managing construction to maintain progress while minimizing disruption to surrounding businesses and residents. Through careful phasing and coordination, the project is delivering a safer, more accessible, and more cohesive streetscape that supports Union City’s continued growth.
